Negative Space

This poster makes clever use of negative space drawing immediate attention to the center of the poster. The design consists mainly in the middle of the poster with limited works to the outer extremity. It makes clever use of shape and colour and also has a limited amount of text ensuring that there is no loss in translation when viewing the poster. The only real distinguishable shape is the heart off center to the right, which takes place of the text ‘heart’, which gives a clear message as to the campaigns agenda “Vote with your heart.”

This poster also has a used negative space to its advantage with the design consisting of a large negative space. This places the main emphasis on the center of the design. It has a strong contrast between the sepia toned background and the coloured image of south America with the Brazilian flag on it which immediately draws the viewers attention. I like the fact that this image is in another language but I am provoked by the poster to stop and look at it. It’s a rather simple design with a good use of texture that is appealing to the eye.

The reason I liked this poster is due to the simplicity of the design. It uses negative space and contrast between the white and grey to differentiate the objects and details of the poster. Although a simple looking design it still incorporates the use of line, point, hierarchy and shape. The shape of the trees and mountains is he clear focal point of the piece, followed by textual information towards the bottom of the poster.

This poster design also makes clever use of negative space. The grey to white gradient background used creates a contrast within the design drawing the immediate attention to the female in the center of the poster, as it’s the largest object on the poster its usually the first thing you look at. The positioning of the chocolate in the top left hand corner of the poster is the next thing that caught my attention alerting me that this is a poster for chocolates, which then defers my attention to the text as you look for some information as to who makes the chocolate.
